There’s plenty to keep the most active adventurer or the biggest family busy. Whether you’re visiting for a day, staying overnight, or enjoying a weekend or long holiday, you will be spoiled for choice at St. Croix.

The park is open to the general public and doesn’t require a membership to visit. Here’s how to make the most of your visit.

Canoeing and Water Sports

Take a canoe or kayak down the flat waters or easy rapids to be found on the Kettle and St. Croix Rivers. This pair of scenic rivers offers the idyllic chance to enjoy the water.

If you’re looking for a water sport that’s a little more leisurely, go for a swim at the beach, or cast a rod and try your hand at fishing. With both river and lake access via boat ramps, there’s nothing stopping you from exploring the extensive waterways.

Hiking and Riding Trails

Take a ramble through the wilderness and enjoy the extensive hiking trails, or hop on a horse and canter through the trees and down the riverbank.

Winter Sports

If you’re a fan of winter sports, the cross-country skiing and snowmobile trails are for you. If you’re not quite up for something so energetic, strap on a pair of snow shoes and explore the numerous hiking trails in a magical winter wonderland.

Biking

Bring along your bike and take a ride down the paved paths, or step it up a gear and take your mountain bike cross-country.

See the Sights

For a slightly more leisurely experience, you can take in the sights, have a relaxing picnic, enjoy the nature programs and the park’s cultural sites, or have a wander over to the Firetower.

The Perfect Spot for Birders

Birding and wildlife observation is another popular activity at the park with more than 300 species of birds.

Camping at the Park

With 217 campsites throughout the park, eight of which are available during winter and 40 are horse-friendly, there’s no shortage of places to stay during your visit. Make sure you don’t miss out on your preferred location and reserve your place ahead of time. You can book into the group camp, all the guest houses and cabin lodges, and any campsites at the horse camping grounds.

Features of the Campgrounds

The campgrounds are pet-friendly and feature a range of facilities, including electricity, hot showers, flushing toilets, and a sanitary dump station. Camping facilities are open fall through winter, with hookups available during winter.

St. Croix State Park is the perfect destination for day trips, weekends, or longer breaks. Nail down your itinerary before you go to make sure you fit in all your favorite activities and make the most of your visit.
