As the best-selling model for Jeep, the Cherokee ranked twelfth best compact SUV according to U.S. News & World Report. Re-released in 2014 after a 13-year hiatus, the Jeep Cherokee is part of the compact SUV market, but what sets it apart from its competitors is that it features high-quality off-road capabilities. Jeep offers five models of the Cherokee, including the Latitude, Latitude Plus, Limited, Trailhawk, and Overland. Continue reading to learn what’s new with the 2019 Jeep Cherokee.
Sharp Exterior
Most noticeable in the redesign of the 2019 Jeep Cherokee is the rear of the compact SUV. The area for the license plate has moved from the bumper to the liftgate, so you experience a higher-stretching skid plate as well as a cleaner look. The Cherokee also has restyled LED taillamps and appears slimmer. To help you get items in and out of the trunk, the vehicle features a lightweight, hands-free power liftgate that you can activate with your foot.
The front also features updates, including a new headlight design for its LED headlights as well as a new front fascia and fog lamps. In addition, the front and rear windows are larger than before, giving you better visibility. The vehicle also experiences new wheel designs to go with its standard 17-inch painted aluminum wheels.
Increased Cargo Space
You can enjoy additional space in the Cherokee’s trunk, thanks to its widened area. The space measures more than almost 26 cubic feet, which is about 2 feet larger than its previous model. If you fold down the rear seats, you can enjoy 54.9 cubic feet of space.
Additional Engine Option
Jeep now offers three different types of engines for the Cherokee. The base 2.4-liter engine has 180 hp and 170 lb-ft of torque, while the upgraded 3.2-liter V6 engine has 271 hp and 239 lb-ft of torque. The third option, which is new for 2019, is a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with 270 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. This new option features a twin-scroll turbo mounted onto the cylinder head. You will also find a water-cooled exhaust manifold on the cylinder head.
Updated Trailhawk
The Trailhawk works well in off-roading capacities and has more aggressive front and rear bumpers, taller fender flares, and a higher ride height for the 2019 model. With the Trailhawk, you can select the terrain system you plan to encounter, and the vehicle adjusts its 4×4 capabilities accordingly. You can choose among Auto, Rock, Sand and Mud, Snow, or Sport.
The vehicle also has several features to improve your off-roading experience. You can lock the rear axle for extra traction, activate hill descent control when traversing through hilly areas, and use the low-speed cruise control to maintain a constant speed. To protect the vehicle’s underside from impediments, it comes with a steel oil pan cover.
The 2019 Jeep Cherokee comes equipped with a stunning exterior design, extra cargo space, a third engine option, and an updated off-road Trailhawk. If you’re in the market one of these excellent compact SUVs, contact the car professionals at Eide Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram.
