The four-door sedan has fallen on tough times in America, yet the 2018 Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 prove there’s still some life left in the segment. Both offer sportiness and style you won’t find in a crossover, while their roomy interiors and top-notch amenities leave little to be desired. Here’s a look at both models and which one may work better for your needs.

Engine Power

Both the 2018 Charger and the powerful 2018 300 offer plenty of performance regardless of the trim you choose. At the base level, each car comes equipped with a 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine that’s good for 292 horsepower or 300 horsepower with the available Rallye package.

If that’s not enough power, the Charger and 300 offer an upgrade to a 5.7-liter Hemi V-8. On the 300, this produces 363 horsepower, while the Charger gets 370 horsepower. When these choices still don’t satisfy your need for speed, the Charger also gets a 485-horsepower, supercharged 6.4-liter V-8.

Verdict: If you need a ridiculous amount of power, the 6.4-liter Charger wins hands down, but don’t let that deter you from the other two available engines on both models.

Color Options

The color of your car says a lot about you as a person and adds a touch of personality to your purchase. Even if you love everything about your vehicle, color can make more of a difference for you think. The 2018 Chrysler 300 comes in nine color options, although these aren’t as bright or as bold as the Charger. Some of the most popular colors include Ocean Blue, Green Metallic, Ceramic Grey, and Gloss Black.

While there’s nothing wrong with any of the 300’s color choices, the 2018 Charger has colors that may appeal to the young or young at heart. The vehicle has 12 paint colors including flashier options such as Go Mango, IndiGo Blue, TorRed, or Yellow Jacket.

Verdict: For an elegant exterior appearance, the colors of the 300 will do more than suffice, but the vibrant hues of the Charger will appeal to younger buyers.

Interior Space and Trunk Space

Both the Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger offer seating for up to five passengers, but the Chrysler 300 gets a slight edge on comfort. Legroom and hiproom get the same dimensions in the backseat and front seat, yet rear passengers will enjoy an extra 1.3 inches of headroom space. This might seem negligible, but taller passengers will notice the difference.

The 300 and the Charger offer ample trunk space for all your cargo. The Charger’s 16.5 cubic feet of trunk room slightly edges the 300’s 16.3 cubic feet. Each have 60/40 rear-folding seats to accommodate anything you throw in its path.

Verdict: The Dodge Charger’s slightly larger trunk negates its narrowly smaller amount of headroom, so this is a stalemate.

Overall, the Dodge Charger and the Chrysler 300 run neck and neck against each other. For some speed and acceleration, the Charger might take the edge, but the opulent feel and appearance of the 300 is nothing to scoff at. No matter which option you choose, you’ll love your new purchase.
